Apple Reinvents the Wheel

Apple introduces the iPad and reinvented the wheel:

When apple introduced the iPhone in 2007, the world basically got what it expected. A phone that introduced a fresh look to a multi touch interface. Apple, being the king of the MP3 player industry yet again launched a product that would redifine what we knew as an essential portable device we 'needed.' With is 100s of thousands of apps now availble from Apple's iTunes, apple has brought new life to independent and small software companies.

It is almost a mere fact to say that the only real contender's in the Smart Phone arena is the BlackBerry and the iPhone. Neither really being the new 'Killer' Phone to the other, but both killing the rest of the competition.


Apple has however set a standard. "Will this be the next iPhone Killer?" Screamed the media, with every phone that offered an inkling of hope to dethrone the iPhone. From the G1, Palm Pre, Palm Pixi, and the Droid; we have learned one important thing. Unless Apple has a Massive 'Toyota Like' recall, nothing is going to dethrone the iPhone.

In 2010 Apple introduced the long antincipated iPad. However this time, apple let the hype do all the talking. I will credit apple with trying to keep book publishers and print media alive and well, but i feel that unlike the iPhone, the iPad was far from revolutionary. One major flaw that didn't seem to be poked much at before is the lack of a USB port. I will say that the media did hit on the fact that no SD/Micro SD slot is availble, basically hinting at the lack of external memory. Also, the failure to add a webcam will hinder the ability for people to ditch their netbook or notebook and fully adopt the iPad. Now it is safe to say though that with Apple inviting software developers to adopt the platform, there will be 3rd party or possibly 1st party peripherals to add, and possibly resolve these issues, but why not add them from the get go.

"This is just a Huge iPhone,", claims the media. The reality is that, this is true, except this time you don't need a wireless phone carrier, making it more like a Giant iPod touch. As much as Apple hoped this would be what the Netbook should have been it is not.

So for now, we wait, and see what this oversized iPhone can do. Your best bet though is get it if you have 500$ laying around, and absolutely have no idea what else to do with it, then go ahead and get one. But it is definitely clear, this is an accesory device, not intended to replace a notebook in the business world, and not intended to be your everyday tool to manage documents, and make changes on the fly. Unlike the Newton, the iPad does have the Apps Store.
